Interstate Mills

Interstate Mills

Randolph, MN

The Midwest is known as the breadbasket of the nation, and for good reason as our farmers produce the majority of corn and grain in the United States. As a result, storing and transporting these massive volumes of commodities in a timely and efficient manner is a major undertaking.

Interstate Mills needed to add a train loading facility to their service menu which required master planning, design, and construction administration services. Located in Randolph, MN, this $24 million project, located on 78 acres in the Great Western Industrial Park includes multiple grain and fertilizer storage facilities and has a 5-million-bushel storage capacity as well as a bulk loading system that operates in conjunction with Progressive Rail, Inc.

To provide rail access to the site, coordination with, and design for the Rail was necessary to ensure an acceptable solution for all entities associated with the operation. Truck access and maneuverability were also paramount considerations for the site. Multiple sites and rail loop and ladder track configurations were evaluated before the current site and configuration was selected. In addition to master planning, site design, and transportation design services, other specialties including structural engineering, land surveying, environmental services, and full construction administration services were provided for this unique project.
