Mankato Community Fields

Mankato Community Fields

Mankato, MN

20 Acres

This cooperative effort with the City of Mankato’s Parks and Engineering Departments, Mankato Area Public Schools, and the Mankato Area Youth Baseball Association developed a master plan and cost estimate for the development of a community athletic complex. Services included designs for youth baseball fields, soccer fields, stormwater management, parking, and city street preliminary design.

The 20-acre athletic complex is located on city-owned property adjacent to Rosa Parks Elementary School. A shared parking lot with the school was one of the many cost saving measures for the complex. The first phase of the complex constructed three baseball fields. Three additional fields, a concession stand, and lighting for one baseball field were constructed during the second phase. The final phase of the project includes the addition of a neighborhood park with a playground, picnic shelters, a basketball court, and soccer fields.

An under-drain system provides higher quality turf and efficient drainage so fields are able to be used sooner after it rains. Four of the ball fields have the flexibility to change the distance to the bases depending on the ages of the players. This shared use athletic complex is the result of collaboration between numerous parties to collocate sporting facilities for a coordinated infrastructure cost savings.
