Mankato Fire Station #2

Mankato Fire Station #2

Mankato, MN

6,400 Square Feet

Charged with designing a cost efficient yet durable building that would serve the City’s tremendous growth area to the East Side-all while maintaining a 6,400 square foot building footprint-was a challenge our designers capably met.The design had to be extremely efficient in order to fit in all of the necessities required of a fire station in this small footprint. Architectural insulated precast concrete panels were used for the exterior shell which provided the necessary insulation and durability that fit the City’s budget.

The Station building currently houses quarters for volunteer firefighters to staff the station overnight, two equipment bays, living space and overnight facilities. Office space is also provided for use by firefighters and police officers. The Fire Station building itself is the first of a two phase project for the Mankato Department of Public Safety. The next phase includes townhomes on the west side of the property to expand overnight coverage by volunteer firefighters.
