Prior Lake Fire Station #2

Prior Lake Fire Station #2

Prior Lake, MN

9,600 Square Feet

The construction of Fire Station No. 2 reflects the needs of a growing community of Prior Lake and serves as an important tool to the Fire Department in protecting the life and property of its citizens. The building is one of two fire stations that together accommodate 45 volunteer firefighters. To create an efficient, practical, and adaptive space, Prior Lake sought assistance from ISG to design a facility that would maintain the fire department’s high level of resident service.

Collaboration with local city officials was an important factor throughout the project. In addition to working with the Fire Department, ISG coordinated to ensure adjacent street improvements accommodated the development of the fire station. Land surveys analyzed the site prior to construction, ensuring that plans were synchronized with the space provided. Thorough land surveying and innovative site designs successfully implemented the necessary grades and turning radii of the fire equipment, overcoming difficult site conditions.

Based in the Jeffer’s Pond Neighborhood in northwest Prior Lake, Fire Station No. 2 encompasses 10,000 square feet that houses three apparatus bays for fire trucks, a standby area, and storage space for equipment. Designs mapped out during the programming phase outlined plans for offices, a meeting room, and kitchen for firefighters to use for training, down time, and community events on fire safety. A portion of the facility was also set aside to lease space to Allina Ambulance, providing a source of revenue for the department.

ISG planning and streamlined collaboration crafted a facility that will grow with the population. Fire Station No. 2 marks a huge step in securing the safety of 40,000 individuals. Receiving an average number of 500 calls a year, Fire Station No. 2 is a reliable base of operations that accommodates the necessary technical equipment and the needs of its volunteer firefighters.
