US Highway 14 Roundabout

US Highway 14 Roundabout

New Ulm, MN

Known to be the first roundabout on the important US Highway 14 improvement project between New Ulm and North Mankato, this new single lane roundabout sits at the entrance of a large new commercial development and a Menard’s store. This project was the result of a collaborative partnership between public and private entities including the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City of New Ulm, Brown County, and Menard Inc. ISG designed the roadway and utilities for this innovative project including the site work for the new Menard’s store.

The roundabout features pedestrian/bike paths, crosswalks, and lighting. In cooperation with one of the biggest contractors in the region, ISG incorporated maneuverability by a 19-axle heavy haul truck and trailer-for moving large construction equipment-into the design. In order to calm any doubts drivers may have about getting through the area safely, the contractor was invited to test the roundabout by traversing it with this large rig. The roundabout now serves as a model project for the many others currently planned throughout the state.
