Chad Surprenant, PE
President | CEO
Growing up in the industry, Chad has had a ground-level understanding of engineering from the time he was six years-old feeding plan sheets into ISG’s (then I&S Engineers) early blueprint machine. Chad continued to work for the family business throughout high school and college, earning practical experience on various survey, construction inspection, and structural engineering projects along the way. After earning his Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University, Chad returned to his hometown of Mankato, Minnesota to join his parents’ 10-person engineering practice.
Over the next several years, in addition to earning his professional licensure, Chad began assuming management responsibilities and helped ISG leaders grow the company to 30 employees, also adopting new services to the practice. In 2001, he was named company President, and the firm has continued to experience significant growth under his leadership, both internally and through tactical merger and acquisition.
During his career, Chad has received numerous professional awards including the “Young Engineer of the Year” Award in 2003 and 2004 from the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers, and Minnesota Federation of Engineering, respectively. As President and CEO at ISG, Chad’s leadership style is to empower first, manage second. This gives ISG professionals across each level of management the confidence to pursue innovative ideas that align with the strategic vision for the firm. Paired with his own strengths as a communicator, ISG continues to drive creative, client-focused services while supporting fulfilling careers for the firm’s employees.
A natural leader in both his professional and public life, Chad is actively involved in his hometown community of Mankato. He has served in a number of local education, business, and non-profit organizations, holding various member, Board, and President roles over the past decade. Mankato, which was named one the fastest growing City’s on Forbes 2015 list, has evolved dramatically under the leadership of community organizers like Chad – changes that continue to strengthen the cultural, recreational, social, and economic vitality of the City.
