Davis County High School

Davis County High School

Bloomfield, IA

The Davis County School’s needed to update their high school facilities and wanted to do so without disrupting the educational process. After careful review the district chose to build a new facility and replace the older school that had too many obstacles to overcome. In so doing, they also decided to phase the school so they could get a longer operational life out of the gym annex they had just upgraded.

The new 400-student 9-12 high school was designed and built on a site adjacent to the existing gymnasium and finished for students so the old building could be demolished. The project was completed without athletic spaces, which are still housed in the previous gym building, but with the future plan of adding them when the old structure has reached the end of its service life.

The new school features comfortable, technology rich, academic spaces focused on collaborative learning. The two-story masonry and metal faced building features generous natural light in both the academic and common spaces.
