Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church

Mankato, MN

30,116 Square Feet

A master planning process for Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church included identifying the need for an expansion of a larger fellowship area and the redesign of the sanctuary. The sanctuary was completely changed and expanded. The raised Sanctuary platform brings focus to the liturgical portion of the ministry. The newly configured limestone stairs radiate out from the main altar and are set back from the granite inlayed star in the front.

The baptistry was relocated from a small room by the entry of the church and is now stationed at the back of the Nave. This allowed for additional space to open up the Narthex and increase natural daylight entering the area, creating a more welcoming entry for the church. The expanded entry required the careful relocation and reuse of the church’s stained glass window- “The Eye of God”. The window is now prominently placed between the two main front doors and is the central focus in the Narthex of the building.
